BookBuddy: My Library Manager App Reviews

Loved it at first...

I loved this for keeping track of my personal books and books for school. Im a teacher & would forget what I had and wished for. This kept it all in one place. Imagine my surprise when I go to check my over 300 books Id scanned & added & it tells me I have 5! Worse yet these are obviously for a policeman or someone in law enforcement. I cannot figure out how to fix this since it just goes to "my books" & not my information. Very disappointed.

Amazing!

Although I had to buy the pro version, its worth it! I had such the hardest time remembering what authors i liked because of my many books. Plus remembering what books i was already reading was tough too. With this app, it is so much easier to see my books on the go, especially when I am at goodwill or the library looking at books!

Excellent - but I recommend you upgrade to pro

The free version allows you to input only 50 books so I gave it a try and then upgraded to pro. I had a few hiccups with importing my typed book list so I contacted their support - who was very detailed and very supportive. With the scan feature sometimes the isbn is not in the bar code - so you may have to look up using an in app search - which is also super quick and easy. I highly recommend and now can export list to my friends and we can start a library share for our children! Well worth the $5 for pro!

Pretty Good

When you first download the app its a trial version up to 50 books. After the 50th book if you like it and want to keeping adding more books you must purchase it. I feel like its worth the price which is around 5 dollars (USD). The barcode doesnt work that well but the online works great. It will keep letting you add books without clearing out the title or the author name until you want it cleared out. You can pick your book cover to match your own book by editing it. Add what vol it is if its in a series and which series it is. Organized the books by author, title, date you entered them in and a few more options. If youre a collector of a curtain book and want different additions of the book it will let you add the same book twice, but be careful because as I said you can add the book twice. There is an option to back up the book lists and to print them out, if need be. So really just try it out if you dont like, dont buy it.

its ok for the phone, not the ipad.

the work behind the scenes on this app is really good. all the features and abilities i was looking for. unfortunately, on an iPad the display is horrible, as its the same display as on the smallest iPhone. that alone hurts the usability of the app. too bad they didnt spend any work on the user interface. if they did, it could be a five star app.

Limited Capacity

I found the description "BookBuddy easily supports large book collections. Some of our users manage more than 10,000 books!” to be misleading, because you can only enter 40 books on the app before you have to upgrade to BookBuddy Pro for $4.99. I did find the app easy to use and, as I am just setting it up, hope using it will be easy as well.

library list feature?

love the app so far! the only addition that would be helpful is to add a library list feature. It could keep track of what you have/havent read, due dates, etc. Other than that, I am so happy that I found this app!

Good app

Easy to use and I like how it recognizes 90% of books I scan. Thanks

Big disappointment

All the information of over 1000 piano books I entered in my iPad got deleted without any warning...all the hours of work are wasted

Limited Capacity For Free

Better if it had in-app ads and more capacity. 40 for free and then $4.99.

Book buddy

Love my book buddy app! Just what I was looking for. Allows me to list all my books so that I dont duplicate books. Love it!!!

A Great Book Manager

This is a great app to track the books you own and /or the books you have read. it allows you to perform an easy on-line search for book authors or titles via Google Books. The book information which is then imported to BookBuddy includes a nice brief book description. You can specify the book genre, and the book series name and number as appropriate. Books can be sorted by author , title , genre, series, date published, your book rating, etc. I found the price of $5 for BookBuddy Pro to be very reasonable for such a versatile book manager app that will store up to 10,000 books. The app allows for quick backup to your personal Dropbox account. A free Dropbox account provides 2 GB of storage which should be sufficent for thousands of books. In addition, with the help of the free Calibre program, you can convert your Kindle or other e-book format to a CSV file (comma separated values) and then import them into BookBuddy. Full disclosure: this requires a few steps in Calibre to import from Kindle, convert to a library list and then export in CSV format for import to BookBuddy. The only downside I will mention is that the ISBN scan feature only recognized about 20% of the books I attempted to scan. Because of this I generally used the on-line search feature to compile my library.

Great app

Easy to use and great way to catalogue a large collection.

Cant love enough

I have struggled with book databases and finally found you guys. It gives me what I need and nothing I dont. I love the loaned out feature. If your a book addict like me and have many and forget if you got that one or not the last time you were at the store. Just open the app look and your done. I use this all the time. Love love love.

Reading is So Fulfilling

Thanks for the convenience of using Book Buddy.

Good but could be great

This app has some amazing tools. You can search online instead of manually scanning. You can scan multiple codes at once. You can add tags and shelves and so many other things to organize your shelves perfectly. However- it fails to recognize more than half of my books. Which makes it a nightmare to manually put in every single one. Maybe if it connected to goodreads it would have a better chance at finding the books and therefore jump this rating from a three to a five. That one simple thing is all I think this app needs in my opinion. I think Ill stick to GR for now but maybe if they make some minor changes I will switch over to this app. Its wonderful, really, but its lacking in important parts. If the app cant find my books, it just makes it harder for me to enter them.

BookBuddy

Love this app it has helped me keep track of what Ive read what I need for my collections and my wishlist. Love it!!

Keeping track of books

I buy LOTS of books. More than once Ive bought a second copy of a book without realizing it. This handy app keeps me from making that mistake. Ive tried other apps and found them frustrating due to slow speeds and clunky systems for adding books. This one works like a charm. I love it!

Desktop client needed

Why are you against a desktop client? For those who have tones of books and want to archive them in bookbuddy a desktop client is essential.

Nice! Could use improvements, though?

This is the best book app out there so far! I love the clean, modern font and set up. It really helps to keep everything organized. Another awesome quality is the ads - or, rather, the lack thereof. Theres no advertisement and I seriously love that, please never change it. However, Id really love an update or few... First, I need to be able to do half-stars! So many of the books I read are 3.5/5 stars or 4.5/5 stars. It would be an awesome addition that would really bump this app to a 4/5! :) Second, and this is kinda big so I understand that its probably not gonna happen soon, but if I could view other peoples libraries? Like if I searched my friends username and I could see that she has a book i want so i could ask her to borrow it. Obviously this would need privacy settings of its own of course. Third, I recently purchased the full version (I used to have the free). I know the large cost is likely due to the absence of advertisement (like i said, love that), but i feel it should come with more than just unlimited shelf space. the full/pro version, at 5$, should bring other features too, like maybe a customizable color scheme? (this update would def bring yall to a 5!) thanks if you read it! tl;dr: good app, but i wish i could rate my books with half-stars and that the Pro version upgrade had more than just unlimited shelf space. :)
